🗣🇵🇹 José Mourinho on the possibility of Nicolás Otamendi moving to River Plate:
“I think it depends ONLY on him. There are players who earn the right, in a way, to choose their future because of everything they’ve built in football — and Otamendi is one of them.
He played his last game with the national team in Argentina by his own decision. I believe he will retire from international football after the World Cup — again, by his own choice. It will also be his decision whether he returns to Argentina and River Plate or continues at Benfica. Everything is in his hands.
The level he’s shown all season — very few injuries, very few absences — his consistency gives him that credibility. So we don’t look at his passport, we forget his age and focus on his performances. He’s a great player. And that quality doesn’t change from one year to the next.”
