Barcelona target has not reached an agreement with Besiktas, wants Spain return

Earlier today, reports emerged claiming that Bayer Leverkusen left-back, linked with a return to Barcelona, had reached an agreement with Besiktas.

With only one year left on his contract, the Spanish defender is expected to leave the Bundesliga club this summer for a reasonable fee.

Barça have been keeping tabs on Grimaldo as a possible replacement for Alejandro Balde, who could be sold amid strong interest from Aston Villa.

So, the development of the former La Masia trainee agreeing to join Besiktas came as a blow to Barcelona.

No agreement reached

However, according to Fabrizio Romano, those claims are not true. The Italian transfer expert reports that there is no agreement between Grimaldo and Besiktas over a summer transfer at this stage.

The Bayer Leverkusen defender is very much open to offers in the summer, although he has not agreed terms with any club so far.

The same has been confirmed by journalist Matteo Moretto, who goes one step further and states that Grimaldo wants to return to Spain in the summer.

This development gives Barcelona hope that they can still secure the services of their former academy talent in the summer, in case they decide to reinforce the left-back position.

A move for Grimaldo in the summer is expected to cost around €12 million, which should not be an issue for the La Liga champions.

Any move, though, will depend on what happens with the future of Alejandro Balde as well as the club’s plans to make Joao Cancelo’s transfer from Al Hilal permanent.

For now, though, Grimaldo does not have an agreement with Besiktas and remains on the Catalans’ radars.
