According to a report from SPORT, Barcelona have taken concrete steps in their pursuit of 18-year-old talent Jesse Bisiwu, with the club already initiating direct contact to explore a potential summer transfer.
The interest is no longer at a scouting level, as Barcelona have moved into active negotiations, with a first official meeting already held with Club Brugge representatives.
As per the outlet, the operation has been driven by key figures within the club.
Barcelona’s head of scouting, Joao Amaral, travelled to Switzerland to meet with Brugge officials and communicate the club’s intentions directly.
This came after earlier groundwork had already been laid, including meetings in Brussels involving sporting director Deco, who has been closely involved in pushing the deal forward.
So what now?
Barcelona’s plan for Bisiwu is to integrate him initially into the reserve team, allowing him to adapt to the club’s style and demands before potentially making the step up to the first team.
It is a pathway the club has used successfully in the past, particularly with young attacking talents. The situation at Brugge, however, adds complexity.
The Belgian knowns Barcelona are interested and have responded by attempting to secure the player’s future with a new contract.
So far, those renewal efforts have not been finalised, as the player’s camp has yet to give full approval.
Club Brugge under no pressure
Despite this, Brugge are not under pressure to sell. Their strategy is to develop young players internally, give them first-team exposure, and only consider a transfer once their value has significantly increased.
This means they are unlikely to rush into negotiations, especially at this stage.
From Barcelona’s perspective, this is the first formal move in what could become a longer process.
For now, the expectation is that Bisiwu could still renew his contract, which would delay any immediate transfer.
But Barcelona’s interest is real, and this is a situation that could evolve quickly depending on how contract talks progress in the coming months.
