Liverpool midfielder ready to make Anfield exit
Almost every Liverpool midfielder has been linked with a move away at some point this season, but the two that seem most likely to leave are Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones.
Mac Allister is the subject of interest from Real Madrid, and a drop off in his level this season has seen the club soften their stance on his availability.
Jones, a product of Liverpool’s youth academy, has struggled to nail down a place in Slot’s starting XI over the past 18 months, and is reportedly discontent with his current situation.
According to a report from Football Insider, Jones is ‘not happy’ with his lack of game time at Liverpool, and is considering a move away from his boyhood club this summer in order to guarantee minutes.
The 25-year-old has become a utility player this season, often filling in for injured or unavailable teammates and playing in multiple positions including left-wing and right-back.
Although Jones has made 44 appearances in Red this season, only 23 have come as starts and he has rarely been selected over the established midfield three of Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai.
Szoboszlai’s multiple stints at right-back have been one of the main reasons Jones has started as many matches as he has.
Were everyone fully available, it feels unlikely that Jones would have a place in the starting XI.
Links to Tottenham have persisted in recent years, and there are other Premier League clubs in the frame too including Aston Villa and Newcastle.
Many supporters would be disappointed to see the local hero leave Liverpool, but if that is the only way Jones can guarantee playing time then the Anfield faithful would no doubt wish him all the best in the next step of his career.
