Portsmouth boss John Mousinho insisted that "the job's still not done" this season for the Blues and their survival in the Championship.

While it is not mathematically confirmed that Pompey are safe, they are just one win away from 22nd-placed Oxford not being able to catch them, and might not need to add to their current total if results go against the U's in midweek.

In their remaining matches, Mousinho's team travel to already promoted Coventry and face a trip to Stoke before ending the season against Birmingham City at Fratton Park.

They are currently seven points clear of the bottom three after winning their last three matches on the bounce, beating Middlesbrough, Ipswich and then Leicester City on Saturday.

"It's been really positive from every front,"Mousinho told BBC Radio Solent.

"The results are first and foremost, three different performances and three clean sheets; the job's still not done, though.

"That's how difficult the Championship is; even after a week as positive as that and five games where we've really bounced back post the international break, we've still got some work to do."

Portsmouth are just three points away from equalling their total last season, where they secured a 16th-placed finish, five points clear of the drop zone.

  • Eight days key to Portsmouth’s likely survival

This is Mousinho's third full season in management, and still his first head coach role since leaving Oxford as a player and coach in 2023.

Portsmouth were promoted from League One in the 2024 season and now look on course to survive a second campaign in the second tier.

The Pompey boss admitted that this season had been more taxing than the last but had presented some different challenges.

"It probably feels a little bit more stressful this season; I'm not sure if that's just because you're living in the moment and there's a bit of recency bias," Mousinho added.

"But I definitely think some of the things that we've dealt with this year, and some of the challenges we've faced have just made it that little bit more stressful.

"I think expectation wasn't sky-high this year, but the expectation or the hope was probably to improve on where we were last year; we'll take a view on that at the back end of the year once we've played all of the 46 games.

"Sometimes that's possible and sometimes it's not, and we just need to take stock of that as a football club and go again."
