Hartlepool United manager Nicky Featherstone will leave his role at the end of the season.
Featherstone was only appointed permanently in December and has led the club in 31 matches.
But after completing the final three games of the National League season, Pools will begin looking for the 37-year-old's replacement.
"Following a thorough review of our football operations conducted by Bromby and Partners, we have taken the decision to move in a specific direction in terms of our first-team manager profile, and at this stage in Nicky's career development, he does not fit that profile," Hartlepool owner Landon Smith told the club's website.
Pools are ninth in the National League and next season will be their fourth at this level since relegation from the EFL in 2023.
American Smith took over the County Durham club earlier this year and in March, he appointed Bromby and Partners, a company headed by football executives Leigh Bromby and Stuart Webber to look at all aspects of the club's football operation.
The club says that it has held initial discussions with Featherstone over alternative roles and opportunities.
The former captain has managed 12 wins but defeats included a 7-0 hammering at Wealdstone last month.
