VI are reporting that Joris Mathijsen could be set for a new role in the Eredivisie. The former Dutch central defender looks set to become the new Technical Director at Fortuna Sittard. Mathijsen is currently without a club after having spent time in a similar role with other Dutch sides ADO Den Haag and Willem II. Fortuna Sittard are looking for a new man for the position after it was announced that Americo Branco would leave at the end of the season. Branco has been with Fortuna Sittard for three years but leaves by mutual consent. VI states that Mathijsen and Fortuna Sittard are in advanced stages of talks.
Mathijsen was capped over 80 times by the Dutch national team and played for a number of clubs in the Netherlands. After coming through at Willem II, the defender went on to play for AZ and Feyenoord. He also spent time abroad, with a few years in Germany at Hamburg and one season in Spain with Malaga.
