Wayne Rooney has said that Manchester City have the edge over Arsenal in the Premier League title race.
Mikel Arteta’s side suffered a blow to their title hopes when they lost 2-1 to Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
City capitalised on the Gunners’ result as they thrashed Chelsea 3-0 on Sunday to cut the gap to just six points.
Pep Guardiola’s side also have a game in hand over their title rivals.
Manchester United legend Rooney believes City ‘will have the edge’ psychologically because of the ‘manager and players they have got’.
Speaking on The Wayne Rooney Show, he said: “I think City will have the edge on that, just purely the manager and players they’ve got. They will be able to stay a little calmer than the Arsenal players.
“They will be worried because when you go on a run and lose a few games, you start thinking ‘where’s the next goal, the next win going to come from?’ That negative mindset really has an impact on your performance.”
After finishing second for the past three years, Arsenal are desperate to finally end their Premier League trophy drought this season.
Losing to Bournemouth at home was a big blow, as it was their easiest of their remaining fixtures.
Arteta’s side now face Man City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, which is widely viewed as a title-decider.
Newcastle United are set to visit the Emirates on April 25 before they take on Fulham at the same venue.
Arsenal then face West Ham United in an away game followed by a home clash with Burnley.
The North Londoners will conclude their league campaign with an away trip to Crystal Palace on the final day.
City, on the other hand, came away with maximum points from their hardest game of the run-in at Chelesa.
They now aim for another big victory against Arsenal to further reduce the gap with them.
The Citizens meet Brentford, Palace and Aston Villa at home, while their three away fixtures are at Burnley, Everton and Bournemouth.
