Earlier in the day, it was reported that Barcelona are eyeing a move for Jhon Lucumi as a potential alternative to Alessandro Bastoni.
However, the club remain firm on their desire to sign Bastoni, who is the club’s number one defensive target heading into the summer of 2026.
Lately, the player himself has been giving hints about his desier to move away from Inter Milan and potentially join Barcelona next season.
Inter Milan make move to sign Bastoni replacement
This has compelled Inter Milan to make some contingency plans, including making a move to sign Bastoni’s replacement.
According to Tuttosport (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Inter have reached an agreement to sign Tarik Muharemovic, a left-footed centre-back from Sassuolo.
Muharemovic has been one of the rising stars of Serie A this season, and he fits the profile of Bastoni, making him an ideal long-term replacement for the Italian international.

The relationship between Sassuolo and Inter Milan are described as healthy, which should help the club ease the process and secure the services of the Bosnian.
Interestingly, Muharemovic was part of the Bosnian team that knocked out Bastoni’s Italian side out of the World Cup qualifying.
Although Inter Milan’s potential capture of Muharemovic does not guarantee Bastoni’s departure, it does suggest that the club are bracing themselves for the exit of the Barcelona-linked defender.
Speaking of Barça, the club are expected to find some financial hurdles in their bid to sign the Italian international and a lot may depend on their salary bill.
At the end of the day, the Catalans could be asked to offload a few star players in order to afford someone like Bastoni, who is being viewed as an ideal long-term defensive partner for the talented Pau Cubarsi.
