Real Madrid’s season has gone from bad to worse in recent months, and numbers prove where exactly it has gone wrong for the team.
Simply put, across their last two matches against Bayern Munich and Girona, Los Blancos have created chances in abundance, yet their lack of clinical edge in front of goal is beginning to cost them dearly.
On paper, Real Madrid’s attacking output looks impressive.
Across both games, they registered a staggering 42 shots – 20 against Bayern and 22 against Girona.
Out of those, 18 efforts hit the target, showing that the team is not struggling to create opportunities. However, the real issue lies in the conversion rate.
From those 42 attempts, Real Madrid managed to score just two goals.
Mbappe and attack under scrutiny
The spotlight inevitably falls on Kylian Mbappe, who remains the focal point of Madrid’s attack.
While he did find the net against Bayern, his domestic form has dipped.
In fact, Mbappe has not scored in La Liga since February, when he last found the net against Valencia.

The impact of this inefficiency is already being felt.
Against Bayern, missed chances prevented Madrid from taking control of the tie and against Girona, it cost them vital points in the title race.
At this level, margins are razor-thin. Games are often decided by a single moment, and right now, Real Madrid are not taking theirs.
All eyes now turn to the second leg against Bayern Munich, a match that could define Real Madrid’s entire season.
To mount a comeback, there is one non-negotiable requirement – rediscovering their clinical edge.
Notably, creating chances will not be enough. Dominating possession will not be enough. The difference will come down to finishing.
