Former Barcelona president Joan Gaspart was among the attendees during Barcelona’s Champions League encounter against Atletico Madrid.
Although the Catalans lost the game 2-0 at Camp Nou, Gaspart, who was known for his flamboyancy in front of the media, did not waste the opportunity to poke the bear.
After the game, Gaspart revealed what he had told Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo while also offering his own thoughts on the club’s top target, Julian Alvarez.
Gaspart on Alvarez and his message to Cerezo
“We didn’t talk about the referee. The only thing I did was speak to them in English so I can get them used to it for when I talk to their owners,” Gaspart quipped (h/t MARCA) when asked about Alvarez.
The former Barcelona president went on to offer his strategy in negotiations with Atletico Madrid, claiming that he would pay no more than €40 million for Alvarez.

He also claimed that the Argentine international is not a €100 million player, which is supposedly the bare minimum the media is reporting, as far as the player’s price tag is concerned.
“I have an idea of what I’m going to negotiate, and as for cash… no more than €40 million or €50 million, and the rest with a Barça player.
“€100 million outright? He’s not going to get it, over my dead body. I’m not going to allow it because he’s not a €100 million player,” the former Barça president said.
Finally, Gaspart revealed his one final message to Cerezo, where he told the Atletico Madrid president that he is enjoying a player who will soon wear the Blaugrana colours.
“Well, you have enjoyed a player who will be ours,” he said.
