Real Madrid may have to face their upcoming matches without two important players as injury concerns continue to affect the squad.

According to a report from Abraham Romero of El Mundo, Kylian Mbappe will not be available for Real Madrid’s next La Liga match against Elche.

More importantly, his availability for the second leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 against Manchester City is also uncertain.

Mbappe continuing recovery process

The French forward has been absent from the team for several matches as he continues to recover from a knee problem.

During the early stages of his recovery, Mbappe travelled to Paris to seek a second medical opinion. While there, he also spent several days working with members of Real Madrid’s fitness staff.

The striker has now returned to Madrid and is currently training individually at the club’s training facility in Valdebebas.

For now, the medical staff prefer to manage his recovery carefully rather than rush him back into action.

Because of this cautious approach, Mbappe will not feature in the upcoming league match against Elche.

Furthermore, his participation in the Champions League clash against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium remains uncertain and will depend on how his recovery progresses over the coming days.

Carreras also ruled out

Unfortunately, Mbappe is not the only Real Madrid player dealing with fitness problems. Summer signing Alvaro Carreras is also expected to miss the same matches as Mbappe.

The 22-year-old left-back suffered a muscle injury in the calf of his right leg following a heavy challenge during Real Madrid’s recent defeat against Getafe.

Medical tests carried out confirmed the injury, forcing the player to begin a recovery programme.

Carreras had already been unavailable for the first leg of the Champions League tie against Manchester City and is now a doubt for the return match in England.
